Click it or Ticket Enforcement in Pennsylvania Through June 8

Pennsylvania State Police are joining with local police forces to push increased enforcement of the nationwide “Click it or Ticket” campaign over the next two weeks. Through June 8, officers in 11 states (including PA) will be cracking down hard on mandatory seatbelt law enforcement.

Deaths of unrestrained passengers in automobile crashes dropped about 15% from 2012 – 2013 through education and enforcement programs such as these.

Departments are promising checkpoints as well as roving patrols largely during nighttime hours. There is no doubt that these efforts will likely yield more than a handful of DUI arrests as well.

Currently, the seatbelt laws in in Pennsylvania have the following requirements:

  • Drivers and passengers under the age of 18 must wear a seatbelt.
  • Passengers under the age of 4 must be properly restrained in child safety seat.
  • Passengers between the ages of four and eight must be restrained in a booster seat.
  • Passengers between the ages of eight and eighteen must be must be in a seat belt when riding anywhere in the vehicle.
  • All front seat passengers are required to wear a seatbelt.

If you are stopped for a motor vehicle violation, you may be looking at two tickets if you or any of your passengers are breaking any of these rules.
