Skilled at Sorting Out Pennsylvania Family Law Issues

There are several common family law issues that can arise during divorce, separation or paternity cases. Our attorneys are skilled at handling a range of family law issues, including the following:

  • Property division: In Pennsylvania divorce proceedings, marital property is divided under the principle of equitable distribution. This does not necessary mean equal division; it means there are guidelines based on overall fairness. We have worked on cases involving significant assets such as houses, businesses and investments, where it is sometimes necessary to hire forensic accountants and other experts.
  • Child custody and visitation: Parenting plans for children must be based on the best interests of the child. We will represent your interests in this determination. We also handle relocation cases for parents covered by an existing child custody order, and we handle third-party interventions by grandparents and others seeking child visitation rights.
  • Child support: In Pennsylvania, child support is calculated using a formula based on each parent's income. If you are granted overnight visitation, your child support obligation decreases. Child support may differ from family to family because the purpose is to put the child in the same financial position as if the parents were together in one household.
  • Spousal support: In some marriages where one spouse has become economically dependant on the other, the court may grant, or the spouses may agree on, a temporary or permanent spousal support payment after divorce. Spousal support can also be granted during the divorce process (pendente lite).
